  APPEAL

For the last 50 years, the MARIE ADELAIDE LEPROSY CENTRE is serving the Leprosy patients of Pakistan with 52,450 registered cases treated free of cost until 2005 all over Pakistan. The treatment cost has not only included medical and surgical treatment for Leprosy but also, in most cases, treatment of concomitant medical and surgical problems. Deserving cases have been provided educational, vocational and socio-economic help for their rehabilitation and integration into their respective communities.
For the last five decades, over 50 percent of the costs for these activities have been borne mainly through donations received from Germany – through the German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association (GLRA-DAHW); as well as grants from the Government of Pakistan; and local private donors. Yet another trusted partner of ours has been the Christoffel Blinden-Mission (CBM), Germany, which has been supporting our Prevention of Blindness Programme.

We feel that as Pakistani citizens it is now our responsibility to take ownership of the Programme and come forward to help the organisation stand on its own feet for the future sustainability of our Leprosy- Tuberculosis-Blindness control efforts.
