  HOW TO HELP

MALC is registered as a non profit charitable organization functioning entirely through donations from international and local donors, in partnership with the provincial governments, and other NGO’s and private individuals.

The annual operating budget consists of these donations and the cash inflows permits the provision of free treatment through the established 157 Centers/Sub centres for patients suffering from Leprosy, Tuberculosis and eye sight threatening conditions.
Besides donations received in money, MALC has designed various products/options and marketing concepts to raise funds to augment the donations

  1. ADOPTION OF EXTENDED LEPROSY CONTROL CENTRES
  2. ADOPTION OF THE MAIN HOSPITAL IN SADDAR, KARACHI
  3. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND.
  4. SPONSORING SPECIFIC EVENTS

Donations and Assistance may flow through any one of the possibilities and these are outlined below.

1. Adoption of Extended Leprosy Control Centers
Prior to the devastating earthquake that struck the northern region of Pakistan, bringing with it massive destruction of human life and property, MALC supported 157 centres/Sub centres, but after the destruction, these have now been considerably reduced. Centers are located in Greater Karachi, Sindh, Baluchistan, NWFP, Azad Kashmir and the Northern Region.

The Manghopir Development Programme offers to youngsters and other groups the opportunity to stay in the Youth House. Equipped with all the necessary facilities (conference rooms, dinning halls), the house can provide board and lodging for up to 40 persons at affordable prices. Today the hostel serves as a centre for workshops and retreats and leadership training.

These centres are offered to corporate bodies and to individuals for adoption/sponsorship, preferably for four years, but may be considered for lesser periods. A longer period ensures continuity of treatment to all those involved.

Governed by the nature of the district and the population to be served, and the fact that free medicines are provided, the cost for sponsoring a centre for a year is approximately Rs. 1 Million.

On adoption these centres are referred to by the company name displaying their logo.

A list of centres with their locations available for adoption can be obtained from the Resource Mobilization Department and MALC’s consultant office.

2. Adoption of the Main Hospital in Saddar, Karachi
The 80 - bedded hospital is in the heart of Karachi in a 7 storey building that now requires urgent refurbishing, repairs and major maintenance.

Any one of its major components can be adopted.
