GLRA Country Representative visit to MALC
June 29/30, 2007
Mr. Klaus Hermann, the Representative of the German Leprosy-Tuberculosis Relief Association (GLRA), accompanied by his wife, visited Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre, Karachi for the first time. He was accompanied by Dr.Thomas Chiang. Dr. Pfau, Mr.Shakeel, Mr.Lobo and Dr.Zia were also present on this occasion.
The delegation had the opportunity to visit the Hospital, and MALC Centres in Orangi and New Karachi. The visitors were impressed by the care and concern for the patients shown across the programme. Mr. Klaus Hermann mentioned that he would like to spend a longer time with the team on his future visit.
The GLRA Representative and the MALC team felt confident of the fact Pakistan now having a GLRA Country Representative, will prove beneficial to the people of Pakistan, through the (ELCP) Extended Leprosy Elimination Programme, and moreover it will help to provide a more detailed, and more objective information on Pakistan.

Dr. Ruth Pfau, Founder Member Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre and Former Advisor on Leprosy to the Federal Government welcoming Shakil Ahmad as Chief Executive Officer to the largest NGO working in Leprosy Control in Pakistan.

 
 
 
 

Mr. Shakil Ahmad is a highly experienced, highly disciplined and goal oriented marketing professional with a track record of meeting/exceeding established goals and objectives with consistency, related to multiple functions of Marketing, Sales, Management, Training, People/Project Development and Administration in Multinational and National environment.
He has achieved significant results related to organizational growth, developing new business lines and physical/remote administration, working at various levels, timely maturing to reach Department Head’s position.
Mr. Shakil Ahmad is a self-motivated and ambitious man with excellent interpersonal, relationship management and presentation skills.
He has a graduation in Life Sciences from University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. His professional experience spans from 1974 todate. Prior to joining MALC, Shakil Ahmad was the Executive Director of A National Pharmaceutical Organization.
Mr. Shakil Ahmad has attended numerous international and national courses.

Health Mela and Fun Fair organized to celebrate Family Health Day

Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre participated in the Health Mela, a jointly organized event of the Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKUSON) and Urban Project of Community Health Sciences (CHS). MALC was represented by Daniel Karamat, Incharge Health Education Department and his team.
The Health Mela and fun fair, was held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, to celebrate the Family Health Day at the premises of Lalabad, a registered area of Primary Health Care Centre Rehri Goth. Children, Families and especially women of that area participated enthusiastically in the event. Community Health Care personnel of CHS Department also actively participated in Health Mela.
AKUSON Diploma Students put various stall like diabetic screening, women reproductive health issues, substance abuse, importance of vaccination, breast feeding and prevention of diarrhea. Children enjoyed puppet show and actively participated in health education awareness session on betel nuts, pan and guttka .More over stall of mehndi, face painting and games were set up.
