Caritas Donates Two Ambulances to MALC
Caritas Austria, has donated two Toyota Landcruiser Ambulances to Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre to be used as Mobile Field Clinics and for Emergency activities in Pakistan, Northern Areas and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
Caritas Austria, a regular partner of MALC in various projects, had earlier sponsored Earthquake Reconstruction and Flood Relief Operations of MALC for the affected people in Azad Kashmir, NWFP, Sindh and Balochistan by providing tents, foodstuff and clothing. The timely intervention in both the calamities was only possible due to an early response from Caritas Austria. It was evident that the emergency relief provided by Caritas Austria had a great impact on the affected people. The local people expressed their gratitude to the MALC Leprosy Team and Caritas for their continuous and timely support.
Bay View Organizes Fundraising event for MALC

Recognizing MALC’s services which have been rendered to earthquake victims in Azad Kashmir, the Management of Bay View High School organized a stage play at their school auditorium for raising funds for MALC on 5th April. The play enacted by the students was very much appreciated by the audience. The School administration announced on the occasion that the proceeds of the event will be donated to MALC for its Chikar and Dhirkot centres in Azad Kashmir being sponsored by Bay View School.
Hospital Renovation Completed

The renovation of Hospital which was started in 2007 has been completed in this quarter. The face-lift of OPD has been sponsored by 3M Pakistan Limited, Trakker Pvt Limited, Nagina Cotton Mills, Habib Bank, ICI and some anonymous donors. MALC management greatly appreciates the efforts of Ms. Abintah Zubairi and Mr. Aziz Khan in the successful completion of the project.
Inauguration of Radiology Department at MALC

The inaugural ceremony was held on Friday 4th April 2008 at MALC Headquarters of its Radiology Department sponsored by Mr. Aftab Adamjee in loving memory of his mother Momin Adamjee. Mr. Aftab Adamjee who attended the function as the Chief Guest has generously donated a brand new Mobile X-ray machine for the department and the Management of MALC has dedicated the department to the name of Late Momin Adamjee.
The function was attended by corporate donors, members of Governing Board and the management of MALC. Dr. Ruth Pfau, founder member of MALC was also present in the function as special guest.
Leprosy Team Participates World TB Day

Leprosy staff participated in a walk on World TB Day which was organized by Provincial TB Program and City Government on 24th March. MALC is collaborating with the Provincial Tb control Program, in TB Control activities in the entire country.
MALC attends Conference on Prevention of Blindness

A delegation consisting of Mr. Shakil Ahmad, CEO and Dr. Ali Murtaza, Incharge Training Institute participated in the Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 14th to 16th March. The Conference was organized by CBM to develop new strategies on Vision 2010. The Conference gave an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge among all partner NGOs and CBM Regional staff and Advisors. MALC presented its contributions and achievements in the Blindness Control Program accomplished with the support of CBM in Pakistan, which was very much appreciated. A Certificate of Recognition was awarded to MALC for pursuing CBM goal to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
International Women’s Day observes at MALC

MALC observed the International Women’s Day on 8th March. Dr. Pfau who attended the function as Chief Guest reminded that the Leprosy Control Program was established by a group of females, which will go down in the history of MALC. She appreciated the contributions made by female staff of the organization. A committee of female staff was also constituted to continue this event.
On the occasion CEO sent a message saying “The Management always supported the gender equality and aimed at inducting as many a capable women as possible in the organization so that women can play a more active role in the fight against poverty and better social well-being. Ours is an equal opportunity organization with no gender biases and will prefer a woman worker if she is equally capable to her male counterpart.”

A delegation, comprising of Dr. Adolf Diefenhardt, Ms. Petra Oldemeier and Mr. Klaus Herrmann from German Leprosy and TB Relief Association visited MALC on 6th March to discuss the future strategy of the program. The delegation visited hospital and a few field clinics of Greater Karachi to have impressions of various services being provided to Leprosy and TB patients through their financial assistance.

A two-day Strategy workshop was held at Avari Towers. The workshop was facilitated by CHIP and was sponsored by Misereor, Germany. The workshop was actively participated by all management and mid-management staff of MALC including provincial representatives. The objective of the workshop was to evolve a process for future strategy, in light of the prevailing challenges.

MALC management and staff celebrated Staff Day on 2nd February. Staff Day is celebrated as an annual get-together, to appreciate staff members performance and encouragement for future endeavors. Dr. Ruth Pfau, Sr. Jeannine Geunns, founder members of MALC, Mr. Shakil Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Council members also attended the function.
This was the first time that Mr. Pir Ali Shah, a senior most staff member was invited as Chief Guest. Staff presented variety programs to entertain the guests. In the end gold medals were awarded to staff members who have completed 25 years service in the organization. Achievement awards were also announced and presented by Mr. Shakil, CEO on punctuality, regularity and being most contributing member of MALC family.

For more than 50 years, on the fourth Sunday of January, thousands of people across the globe have stopped to remember those who suffer the horrendous effects of leprosy.
World Leprosy Day, is a day to increase public awareness about leprosy and to encourage the flow of funds, imperative to take the cause of leprosy eradication, forward. The central theme of every ‘World Leprosy Day’, seeks to provide cure for the disease in leprosy endemic regions, and enable the patients to lead a life of dignity. A holistic approach that ensures the smooth integration of the leprosy victims with the society forms the tenet of every World Leprosy Day.
Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre will celebrate World Leprosy Day on Saturday, January 26,2008 with the aim to bring about feelings of togetherness and love between the patients, the caregivers and the community.

Emergency relief activities for flood effected people in Sindh

Larkana, Aug 06, 2007: The Marie Adelaide team has distributed 300 packets of uncooked food and 90 tents donation among flood effected families near 'Chukhi', 'Katchi Pul' and other areas, said Dr. Farooque Rehman Soomro, Incharge Leprosy Centre Larkana. He said the Marie Adelaide organisation will provide seeds, fertilisers and assistance in reconstruction of housesin flood struck areas. The campaign will continue for three months, Said Dr. Soomro.
Similar work is also carried out in Balochistan and adjoinig areas.
